Seminar on Brahmaputra, Majuli organised

MAJULI, April 3 - A seminar titled, �Brahmaputra: Amar Aasha Aru Pratyasa� was organised at the Keshabram Borah auditorium of Majuli College as a part of Namami Brahmaputra Festival on Sunday.

The programme was presided over by principal of Majuli College, Dr Debajit Saikia and inaugurated by DC of Majuli, Pallab Gopal Jha. The programme was anchored by Dr Ananda Hazarika and the invited speakers of the seminar were felicitated by college fraternity.

Dr Debajit Saikia, in his speech, explained the aims and objectives of the seminar. Thereafter, the invited speakers of the seminar Mayur Bora, prominent writer; Abani Kumar Bhagawati, HoD of Geography dept, Gauhati University and Naren Chandra Thakuria, retired principal of Majuli College delivered their speeches.

Mayur Bora, in his speech, said that the problems of Majuli should be highlighted at the national level. The very word Majuli with its assets is not only magical but also mesmerizing. But the �objects� with which we identify a place is always not enough to hide the reality that the inhabitants of the place have to face in their real lives, he added.

AK Bhagawati said that if we want to save Majuli, then we have to adopt some long-term measures with proper strategies. Short-term plans can prove beneficial only for a short period of time.

The retired principal and also the former head of Geography dept of Majuli College, Naren Chandra Thakuria, in his speech, threw light on many exciting and thought provoking things about the mighty river and added that Majuli is the gift of Brahmaputra.

An interaction session took place at the end of the seminar.
