GUWAHATI, Jan 2 - An international seminar on the Bhakti Movement in India with special reference to Srimanta Sankaradeva organised by the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, was inaugurated today as part of the ongoing Srimanta Sankaradeva First International Festival-2016.
The seminar was inaugurated by Mukesh Sahay, DGP, Assam.
The seminar is being organised with the objective of promoting and highlighting the contributions and achievements of 15th-century Vaishnavite saint Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardev in the national and international arena through the festival from January 2 to 8.
Over 150 research papers from faculties and scholars of various universities and colleges were submitted for presentation.
In his inaugural speech, Sahay deliberated on the Mahapurushas enormous contributions to every sphere of life. One can understand, interpret and live the persona of the scientist, the philosopher, his dramas, his music and dance forms, but cannot define the versatility of the genius in words and language, he said.
Earlier, Narayan Konwar, Secretary, Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, welcomed the distinguished scholars and said that the Mahapurushas contributions could be more visibly projected into the global arena for even greater appreciation of his genius through translation of his works into English.
