Security tightened for PM visit

By NEWMAI NEWS

AIZAWL, Nov 20 - Security measures have been tightened in Aizawl as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting the State on Thursday to launch an election rally.

Mizoram goes to poll on November 28 and the results will be declared on December 11. BJP leaders said that the Prime Minister will address a BJP rally at Assam Rifles Ground in Aizawl. Narendra Modi is likely to be accompanied by at least three Union Ministers and senior BJP leaders.

Meanwhile, the Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has threatened to stage a protest rally during the Prime Ministers visit.

Congress spokesperson Lallianchhunga told reporters that the party would use all its resources to oppose the Prime Ministers visit. He said that the Congress was not happy after the AICC president Rahul Gandhi was denied the Assam Rifles Ground for the public rally. The MPCC alleged that the BJP government at the Centre was responsible for the problem.

Lallianchhunga said that the State Congress party on Sunday had written to the Election Commission complaining about the discriminatory policy of 23 sector Assam Rifles in allotment of the Assam Rifles Ground in Aizawl. He also said that the Congress applied for the ground much before the BJP did.
