Security stepped up in BTAD areas

GUWAHATI, Aug 11 � The Government has set up 120 fixed security pickets in the vulnerable areas of the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD) to provide security to the common people. This was disclosed by Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain in reply to a question by Abul Kalam Azad (AIUDF) in the State Assembly today.

The Minister said that the militants belonging to the NDFB (S) are still active in the BTAD area and the outfit has been trying to look for soft targets to prove its existence. The Government has been trying to bring the situation under control. He said according to police reports, NDFB (S) militants were involved in the killing of more than 40 people on the first two days of May this year in Baksa and Kokrajhar districts and the matter is now being investigated by the National Investigating Agency (NIA). The next of kin of those killed were given ex-gratia relief of Rs 8 lakh each.
