Security beefed up in Tinsukia after blasts

TINSUKIA, April 29 - The ULFA (Independent) carried out two blasts in Tinsukia district on Thursday. No one was hurt in the first grenade blast near Padumoni. But the second grenade blast in front of a paan shop at Devipukhuri Panch Ali around 7.45 pm, injured 11 persons in all, confirmed SP Mugdha Jyoti Mahanta. Out of them, six including Parag Borthakur, Monoj Mahato, Rejaul Haque, Hemanta Gohain, Suraj Ram Das and Bhuleswer Shah, had to be shifted to the AMCH, Dibrugarh. They are stated to be out of danger. The rest have been released after administration of necessary treatment.

The SP stated that security forces comprising police, CRPF and Army personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas of the district for ensuring security.

The twin blasts came a day after the killing of dreaded ULFA (I) militant Rongmon Asom alias Mekuri on April 27.
