Security beefed up in State

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 18 Security arrangements in and around vital installations have been reviewed with militant outfits, especially the anti-talk faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), trying to sneak into the capital city.

The threat perception continues to be there even from the ULFA hardliners ahead of its martyrs day and the ensuing Independence Day, the sources said.

It has been reliably learnt that additional security forces would take guard at strategic locations in and around the vital installations and the crowded places in a day or two.

The threat, at this moment, is more from the NDFB than any other outfit. We are taking all precautionary measures to avert any kind of untoward incident, sources said.

Although, security arrangements, after the recent blast on the railway tracks in Rangiya, have already been beefed up, another fresh deployment is expected in a day or two, sources told this reporter.

Meanwhile, a massive operation has been launched against militant outfits by security forces, especially in lower Assam.

A senior Assam Police official further divulged that round-the-clock checking in all the entry points to the city has been ensured.

Moreover, based on the intelligence inputs, raids are also being conducted. Search operation are being conducted in all the probable locations where militants could take refuge, the official added.
