Security beefed up in BTAD districts ahead of I-Day

KOKRAJHAR, Aug 6 � Brisk preparations are on to celebrate Independence Day in Kokrajhar and other neighbouring districts of western Assam. Army, CRPF, SSB and other security forces are on high alert in these areas to prevent any disturbance during the Independence Day, said a highly-placed security official.

Talking to this correspondent, he said security measures all over the Western Assam Range and all the BTAD districts have been beefed up after inputs were received about the ultras� plan to strike on or before the Independence Day. He also said that all-out efforts have been made to thwart the attempts.

�In this context, we will intensify patrolling in Indo-Bhutan border areas and the inter-State Assam-Bengal border areas along with all pockets areas where ultras are active, he said.

He further said that security measures have been tightened at railway tracks, highways, oil installations, and all important areas and places in lower Assam.

Meanwhile, the district police administration of Kokrajhar is leaving no stone unturned to foil any attempt of any subversive activity by ultras. Besides enhancement of security at every level, strong vigil has been intensified at the vulnerable border areas of Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon apart from erecting mobile check gates at various places. Round-the-clock security patrolling has been enforced while major public places and installations have been put under high security cover and the ground for I-Day celebration is kept under security cordon.

The DM Kokrajhar has also promulgated CrPC 144 in the district preventing pillion riding in two wheelers etc., to check the attempt of terrorism and shall remain in force until further orders.
