Security beefed up for PM�s programme

GUWAHATI, Nov 26 � With Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to flag off the first train to Meghalaya and lay the foundation stone of a new project at a centrally organized event at Maligaon headquarters of NF Railway, security in trains, railway stations and all other railway infrastructure across the State has been beefed up to prevent any subversive attempts by terrorist groups.

Senior Railway Police sources said the situation assumes special importance considering the recovery of an improvised explosive device from a passenger train near Rangia on Monday.

�Additional forces have been deployed to keep a vigil at railway stations and other rail infrastructure. GRP, RPF, CRPF and Assam Police are jointly undertaking security and regular meetings are being held,� said an official.

He said security forces are on a 24-hour standby. �Teams have been deployed at running trains to check on any suspicious persons and packages. Sniffer dogs have been deployed. There is CCTV monitoring of strategic locations, including stations.�

Modi is scheduled to flag off the first train to Meghalaya and lay the foundation stone for the Bharibi-Sairang new railway line at a function to be held at the Railway Stadium at Maligaon on November 29.
