DHEMAJI, April 11 - In view of the movement of persons defying norms of social distancing, entry of people from neighbouring district and plying of vehicles without permission in the district during the lockdown period, Dhemaji district administration has taken strict steps to restrain the illegal practices.
The District Magistrate of Dhemaji, Narshing Pawar, by an order issued on April 10, enforced Section 144 of CrPC and prohibited movement of persons and vehicular traffic other than on-duty officials, medical emergency and essential services.
Thus, the order strictly prohibited pillion riding on motorbike except elderly and sick, and public gathering in front of banks and other offices.
It is said that the prohibitory order will be in force within the district jurisdiction until the lockdown period is over.
The district administration has already sealed all entry points in order to prevent entry of people from other districts to the district. Thus, police forces have been deployed to guard entry points at Gogamukh (NH-15 and Gerukamukh), Uttar Dhemaji, Muchkhuwa, Bogibeel Bridge, Likabali, Jonai (Ruksin gate), besides all vulnerable location such as porous Assam-Arunachal boundary and water ways.
Earlier, the police had arrested 28 persons for violating lockdown norms.
