SHILLONG, May 2 - The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has promulgated Section 144 of the CrPC, prohibiting the sale of petrol and diesel in loose jerricans, bottles and any other containers to the public at petrol pumps within the district.
�This order was necessitated in view of the information received of the ongoing agitation regarding matter relating to the demand for Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya by pro-ILP groups and whereas they had also declared to hold various agitational programmes in the near future,� an official press release stated.
Moreover, the order was imposed in the light of a recent incident which took place at a godown of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Ri Bhoi district, where a Home Guard personnel died due to assault and arson at the godown at Mawlai where trucks were set ablaze.
