By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 4 The Assembly Secretariat has issued a letter to Congress MLA from Borkhola Dr Rumi Nath to explain as to why she recommended issue of Assembly vehicle passes to the vehicles owned by Anil Chauhan, who has been arrested by the police in connection with car-lifting cases registered at different places of the country.

Principal Secretary of the State Assembly GP Das told this newspaper that the letter in this connection has been issued following the directive of the Assembly Speaker. The letter has been sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar with a request to hand it over to Dr Nath at the earliest.

The follow-up action on the reply of Dr Nath would be taken as per the order of the Speaker, Das said.

He further informed that the Assembly Secretariat issued passes against Anil Chauhans vehicles on three occasions on the basis of recommendations by Dr Nath. In the first instance, the pass was issued on May 18, 2013, against a vehicle bearing registration number AS O1 MA 5917. Dr Nath showed herself as the owner of that vehicle and showed Anil Chauhan as its driver.

In the second instance, the pass was issued against the same vehicle on September 26, 2014. But this time, Anil Chauhan was shown as its owner, with Milan Rabha shown as its driver.

In the third instance, a pass was issued on January 29, 2015, against a vehicle bearing registration number AS O1 MA 5197. Anil Chauhan was shown as its owner and Mili Rabha was shown as its driver, said the Principal Secretary of the State Assembly.

He also said that as per the relevant rules, an MLA or a Minister of the State may get passes against all of his or her own vehicles. On top of this, an MLA or a Minister gets five more vehicle passes for his or her family members, friends and relatives.
