AIZAWL, Nov 5 - Mizoram today reported its second COVID-19 fatality as a 78-year-old woman succumbed to the infection around 1 am at the Zoram Medical College (ZMC) here.
An official release stated that the deceased, one Darhawni, a resident of Durtlang Leitan here, had been admitted to the ZMC on October 21 after she tested positive for the virus. She was shifted to the ICU on October 23 and had been on ventilator support since then. The woman�s body was buried at the local cemetery in accordance with the COVID-19 protocols.
Meanwhile, Mizoram today reported 65 new cases of COVID-19, taking the State�s tally to 2,958. An official source said that the new cases were detected after testing of 1,215 samples in different districts.
At least 30 out of the 65 new patients contracted the virus at a private high school here. They include one student, 25 hostellers, three staff and a relative of the school staff.
Seven of the new patients have returned from outside Mizoram, while the rest of them have been locally infected. Mizoram now has 521 active cases, while 2,435 people have already recovered from the infection and two persons have died.
