GUWAHATI, Feb 16: The State has received the go-ahead from the Centre to vaccinate frontline workers along with healthcare personnel for COVID-19.

The second phase of the vaccination will cover over around 2 lakh frontline workers, mostly personnel from State and Central police forces, disaster management volunteers and staff of some departments like municipality, revenue, P&RD etc.

The State Health Department today reviewed the preparations in the districts.

“We will roll out the second phase on Thursday. Till this evening, 1,66,530 personnel have registered in the Co-WIN portal for the second phase. The registration will be open till tomorrow. We hope there will be more additions to the list,” a senior health official said.

Nearly 5,000 Assam Police personnel have tested positive for the novel coronavirus till date and at least 23 of them have lost their lives.

The cumulative number of healthcare workers, who have received the first dose of the vaccine, stood at 1,28,146 till Monday.

Altogether 3,862 of them have received the second dose administered after 28 days.

Around 64 minor cases of AEFI (Adverse Event Following Immunization) have been reported till date in the State.

Meanwhile, 11 new COVID-19 positive cases were detected yesterday out of 15670 tests done. Two deaths were also reported yesterday, taking the toll to 1089. The number of active cases has come down to 267.
