UDALGURI, June 10 - In order to maintain law and order, the Udalguri district administration imposed Section 144 of the CrPC in the entire Udalguri area this evening, stated Dimple Baruah, assistant commissioner of Udalguri district.
The development came after a local youth, Dipankar Deury (35), was beaten up by a mob near Mission Corner in the heart of Udalguri town this evening on the suspicion that he was a sopadhara (child lifter).
Deury had gone to a petrol depot to refuel his vehicle. The mob also set the vehicle on fire. Deury was rushed to the Udalguri civil hospital and he is reported to be out of danger now.
It may be mentioned here that a schoolboy was severely beaten up a few days ago at Harisinga under the Harisinga Police Station by a mob. He was later admitted to the Tezpur Medical College Hospital. The police have arrested five persons till date in this connection.
Meanwhile, Udalguri Police have started an investigation to nab the persons behind the attack on Deury. No one has been arrested till the filing of this report.
