GANGTOK, April 11 - Army personnel have launched a massive search-and-rescue operation to locate a soldier, Lance Naik Sanjeeva Reddy, who is understood to have been struck by an avalanche. Reddy, who was operating a dozer in the snow-bound high altitude areas of Sikkim, came under the avalanche on April 6, stated Army officials. He is a resident of KS Pally village in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh

More than 250 Army personnel, helicopters, dogs and other support equipment are being employed in the search operation.

The search party is braving the inclement weather marked by frequent snow fall and poor visibility.
