Sealed EVMs arrive strongrooms in Manipur

IMPHAL, April 13 - The sealed EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) collected from the polling stations across the 28 Assembly constituencies that fall under Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency that went to poll on April 11, have started to arrive for storing in strong rooms under tight security at the various district headquarters in Manipur, officials said.

Except around 20 polling stations, most of the sealed EVMs have arrived at the respective district headquarters soon after the polling on Thursday, sources said. Manipur has recorded nearly 80 per cent polling in the first phase polling for Outer Manipur Parliamentary constituency. �We can give you the final figure only when the remaining polling parties arrive today,� said Chief Electoral Officer PK Singh over phone.

The sealed EVMs collected from 265 polling stations located across seven Assembly constituencies have also been stored in a strong room at Mini Secretariat of the Thoubal district, sources said.

Meanwhile, the CEO said the scrutiny for the Polling Stations where re-poll might be held, will be made on April 14 and the report will be sent to the Election Commission which will fix the date of the repolling.

There are reports of destruction of EVMs and VVPATs at two polling stations Poi (A) and Poi (B), a remote village near Indo-Myanmar boundary under in Chingai Assembly constituency on Thursday.
