AGARTALA, June 1 - Unruly IPFT workers on Friday assaulted SDM Sanjib Debbarma for not allowing them or any of their MLAs to attend an administrative meeting. The SDM was escorted out of office by police personnel and an FIR was filed. But no arrest has been made as yet.
The meeting was convened at the Jampuijala BDO office to discuss welfare projects. The local IPFT workers protested as no leader or representative of their party had been invited, though the BDO had already clarified that the party could not be invited as it had no representative officially empowered to attend the meeting.
Even though police personnel were deployed, a large number of IPFT workers had gathered there. The meeting proceeded in the presence of Golaghati MLA Birendra Kumar Debbarma, SDM of Jampuijala, and MLA Rampada Jamatya. Jampuijala BDO Sanjiv Debbarma conducted the meeting.
But when the meeting ended, IPFT workers rushed in and attacked the SDM. Later, he was rescued by the police.
