Assam polls: Scuffle in Sonai leaves two injured

Silchar, April 1: In a shocking turn of events, polling process for the second phase of Assembly elections for the seven constituencies of Cachar district which started on an enthusiastic and peaceful note despite heavy rainfall in some places concluded with an alleged incident of violence as two persons were reportedly injured in a scuffle two groups at a polling station in Sonai constituency.

Locals alleged that police had to exert force to disperse crowd and defuse tension among the two groups at the 109 polling station in Sonai. Senior police officials have rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.

In another incident at Katigorah constituency, sources said that a youth has been taken into police custody for allegedly resorting to foul means.
