Scribes forum condemns Tripura journalists murder

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 22 - Expressing shock over the brutal murder of Shantanu Bhowmik, a young television scribe in Tripura, the Journalists Forum Assam (JFA) has demanded a high level probe into the incident and urged the Manik Sarkar-led Left Front government in the State to bring the culprits to book.

The forum also demanded a special law for the protection of scribes on duty.

Bhowmik (29), who was associated with a local news channel Dinrat in Agartala, was attacked on Wednesday when he had gone to cover a clash between the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) and the Tripura Rajaer Upajati Ganamukti Parishad (TRUGP) at Mandai in West Tripura district. Shantanu becomes the seventh Indian journalist killed this year in India.
