Scribes body moves Centre over salary issue of DD workers

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Sept 27 - The Journalists Forum, Assam (JFA) today moved the Union government against alleged injustice meted out by the authorities of Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati, to casual news workers.

In a memorandum to Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and the top rung of Prasar Bharati, the JFA said: Since they are casual and unprotected, nobody is worried about their remuneration. It is nobodys business that they should get paid and that too timely. Till September 24, 2018, they are yet to get the dues from the month of April 2018. As there is no accountability and seemingly no one entrusted with the responsibility to ensure their pay, nobody is bothered. Repeated requests to those who can do anything fall on deaf ears.

The casual news workers comprise assistant editors, copy editors, reporters, DTP operators and camerapersons.

The JFA urged the Union Minister and Prasar Bharati to introduce a fool-proof system to ensure timely payment to the casual news workers and introduce strict accountability so that the officials responsible for delayed payments are pulled up.
