GUWAHATI, Oct 10 - Health and Family Welfare Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today said there will be a special screening camp on the tenth of every month to identify children who would be covered under the Sneha Sparsha scheme of the state government.
Sneha Sparsha is a healthcare initiative that was launched in 2013 for children below 12 years of age for both BPL and APL families (with annual income less than 2.5 lakh) that aims at bearing expenditures of high-end specialised treatment for diseases like bone marrow transplant, cochlear implant, liver transplant, kidney transplant, artificial limbs, blood cancer, specialised eye surgery, tumours, neurological anomalies and Thalassemia.
So far, 539 children have been benefitted from the scheme. Today, registration of 185 beneficiaries has been completed.
At a function held at the GMCH auditorium, the Health Minister further informed that since the launch of Assam Arogya Nidhi in 2012, the state government has disbursed Rs 25.45 crore to as many as 3,662 beneficiaries in the State.
He also informed that although the scheme in its first could reach out to a very few beneficiaries, the response was quite encouraging in the subsequent years.
Today, 187 eligible beneficiaries under Assam Arogya Nidhi were also given financial assistance.
The scheme relates to providing financial assistance to BPL families and families having a yearly income of less than Rs 5 lakh for treatment of any serious disease requiring surgery/implants or procedures like bone marrow transplant or any other critical diseases. The maximum financial assistance under the scheme is Rs 3 lakh.
Feel humbled to recall that during my tenure as Health Minister, we could complete 7,689 CHD surgeries, 5 liver transplants and 50 bone marrow transplants free of cost for children below 12 years, Sarma tweeted while referring to the Sneha Sparsh scheme.
