GUWAHATI, Aug 6 - The Asom Songrami Mancha has sent a letter to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, seeking withdrawal of the draft notification of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), 2020.
The Mancha, vehemently opposing the draft, said that it is anti-environment, anti-Assam and against the indigenous people of North- east India. It said the draft notification does away with public consultation. To take away the public�s right to opine on developmental projects is undemocratic and a clear attack on tribals and indigenous people, it said.
Saying that the EIA, if implemented, would have disastrous impacts on the flora and fauna of Assam and its people, the Mancha�urged the ministry to scrap the draft, or strengthen it instead to save the State�s biodiversity.
