Scrap godown manager shot at in city

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Oct 13 - The manager of a scrap godown was shot at on his leg this evening in the second such shooting incident in the city in a month.

The incident took place at around 5.30 pm at the godown located between Sarusajai and Nalapara.

The victim, identified as Jehirul Islam, was rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Doctors said Jehirul, who sustained bullet injuries on his left leg, was out of danger. He hails from Barpeta.

Police sources said two motorcycle-borne miscreants came to the godown and demanded money. When the manager refused, he was fired at.

It is too early to say anything. We have to examine the victim who is undergoing treatment. Only then we can say something, a police official said.

Police have ruled out the involvement of extremist groups in the incident.

On September 12 last, the employee of a firm was shot from point-blank range by miscreants at Kumarpara. Shyam Sundar Ratawa had succumbed to his injuries. Police are yet to get any leads into the incident.
