SCR clinch railway hockey crown

GUWAHATI, March 14 - South Central Railway (SCR), Secunderabad outplayed Railway Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala 4-1 in the final of the 75th All India Railway (Men) Hockey Championship at the Maulana Md Tayyebulla Hockey Stadium at Bhetapara here today.

In the one-sided encounter, Gauravjeet Singh opened the account for SCR in the 13th minute while skipper Gurpreet Singh doubled the scoreline in the 21st minute.

After the break, the SCR team continued their domination and punched the third goal through Deepak Sharma in the 43rd minute. Pradeep Singh made it 4-0 in the 62nd minute as the RCF defence already started leaving big gaps. However, Aiyappa PR netted the consolation goal for the Kapurthala team in the 64th minute. The tournament was organised by the NF Railway from March 11 where 8 teams took part.

In the closing function, chief guest Chahatey Ram, General Manager, NF Railway gave away the trophies. Rekha Jadav from the Railway Sports Promotion Board was also present as the guest of honour. Ajit Pandey of South Central Railway was adjudged the best player of the tournament.
