Scope to expand ties with Bangla, says Jaishankar

By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, May 23 Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modis visit to Bangaldesh, India today said there are enormous possibilities to expand bilateral ties and that it was looking for a win-win situation for both the countries, reports PTI.

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar expressed confidence that Modis visit will bring a new momentum to the ties between the two countries.

Responding to questions on the Teesta river water-sharing agreement, he said it was an issue under discussion.

The Teesta deal was set to be inked during the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs visit to Bangladesh in September, 2011 but was postponed at the last minute due to objections by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banarjee.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who moderated the discussion, said India was positively looking forward to Modis upcoming visit. He will make certain announcements, things that are positive. Were thinking in terms of a brighter future, he said.
