GUWAHATI, Nov 18 - The Press Information Bureau, Guwahati organised a webinar on the topic �Industrial and Civil Infrastructure � Dams, Hydel and Eco-friendly Power Projects � Potential Drivers and Engines of Growth and Development� here on Tuesday.
Experts from the industry fraternity, ministries of Power, Water Resources, Steel, Coal, Commerce and Industry and Hydel Energy and allied sector industries along with academicians deliberated and discussed about the market potential of the industrial and civil infrastructure of dams, hydel and eco-friendly projects and creating awareness about the same from the socio-economic, academic and policy perspectives.
Talking about the Central government�s initiatives and its public awareness initiatives, Dr PK Mukhopadhyay, Member Secretary of Damodar Valley Corporation said that the energy, communication and transport sectors � be it waterways, highways and railways are experiencing a huge paradigm shift leading to social and economic development of North-East India as a region.
Shibasis Basu from SAIL-IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur, Paschim Bardhamaan said that power and energy sectors have tremendous potential for directly employing youth. He said in that endeavour dams, green buildings-constructions and environment-friendly technologies have added to the efficacy of planning, construction, storage of water and utilisation of the hydropower sector.
Satyabrata Banerjee, Chief Engineer, Civil and HoD, DVC, Maithon said that the initiatives like �Ease of Doing Business�, �Make in India�, �Startup India� and �Stand Up India� are bringing a paradigm change in the tertiary and allied sectors. He said that the optimal utilisation of hydropower potential in the region, which has many rivers and water resources, has the potential for socio-economic development of the small and medium enterprises and industries of the area.
Dr Kishor Goswami, Professor of Economics in Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Kharagpur stated that economic growth and development is related to the potential of power, energy and infrastructure of a region. He said that entrepreneurial opportunities are being encouraged in a better business environment and there has been growth of human resource potential.
