Scientists urged to conduct more research works

TEZPUR, Dec 27 - Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi has laid stress to conduct more research works to bring in development in the State.

Participating in the 16 th convocation of the Tezpur University at the Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha Auditorium here, he said that the varsity has already taken up a number of developmental projects which have started paying dividends.

�I am happy that the research projects undertaken by the university, such as arsenic removal will help the people to a large extent,� he said.

Participating in the convocation as the chief guest, former Director of AIIMS, Dr Ramesh Chandra Deka appealed to the research scholars and faculties of Tezpur University to dedicate themselves for the betterment of society by applying their research works for the poor.

Deka said that TU has larger role to play in the field of modern science, especially in the healthcare sector. �In the healthcare sector, we need modern machines to treat our patients, so the scientists of the varsity can develop machines with foreign collaborations,� he said.

On herbal medicines, he informed that despite resources in the North-east, proper research works are yet to be carried out in this field. In this context, he underscored the need for carrying out more research works on herbal medicines.

In the convocation, altogether 1,132 students were conferred degrees in different disciplines.
