Science competitions organised at Dhemaji

DHEMAJI, Dec 1 - With a view to popularising science among school students, the block-level science competition was organised under the aegis of Aryabhatta Science Centre, Dhemaji, at Dhemaji Girls� HS School on November 28, which was supported by the Assam Science Technology & Environment Council, Guwahati, and sponsored by the State Department of Science and Technology.

The competitions included science-based model competition, extempore speech competition, poster drawing competition and idea competition among the students from Class VI to Class X of the schools under the Dhemaji development block. More than 200 students of different schools attended the event, and 70 of them participated in the competitions.

The competitions were inaugurated by professor of Dhemaji College Dr Annajyoti Gogoi. In her speech, Dr Gogoi laid stress on developing a scientific temperament and innovative thinking and exhorted the students to be observant and inquisitive.

In the science-based extempore speech competition, Abhinab Shandilya of Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalay (VKV), Dhemaji, won the first prize, Himmoyukh Buragohain of Mother�s Pride School won the second, and Raju Dutta of Dhemaji HSS won the third prize. In poster competition, the first position was bagged by Mayur Trishna Gohain (Dhemaji Girls� HSS), the second position by Nistha Gogoi (VKV, Dhemaji), while Trivedi Borgohain of Dhemaji SFS School won the third spot.

In the science-based model competition, the team of Ayusman Bharati and Dhrubajyoti Pait (SFS School) was adjudged first, Raktim Bhardhara and Smrita Boruah (Mother�s Pride School) and Purab Pratim Boruah and Layad Konwar (VKV) were named the joint second, while Kherinita Mipun and Lawer Sonowal of VKV, Dhemaji, won the third spot. The winners were later awarded with books and citations.
