Schools with zero pass percentage to be closed

GUWAHATI, June 7 - The State government will close down 17 schools which have registered a pass percentage of zero in the HSLC results declared yesterday.

Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the teachers of these schools will be transferred across the State and the students will be enrolled in the nearby institutions.

Citing the HSLC results, Sarma, however, claimed that the quality of government schools has increased.

�The number of the schools which recorded a pass percentage of cent per cent rose from 54 last year to 109 this time,� he said.

Similarly, schools registered a pass percentage between 90-100 went up from 386 to 503.

Last year, 92 schools had a pass percentage of 0-10 and this year the number of such schools decreased to 33. Last year, 21 schools had recorded a pass percentage of zero.
