BONGAIGAON, Nov 8 - Lower primary and middle school students in Chirang district have been attending their classes without meals after the NGO assigned to supply midday meal to these schools stopped its service from Thursday.
Uttar Pradesh (UP)-based NGO Saghan Kshetra Vikash Samiti had stopped its midday meal supply to over 50,000 students of around 620 schools in the district from November 7 after it had complained to the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan�s Mission Director on November 6 about the non-coperation of the school management committees and staff in its service.
But Chirang District Deputy Commissioner Gautam Talukdar has refuted the allegation of non-coperation by the school management committees and staff raised by the NGO in its complaint to the SSA Mission Director and clarified before the media that not a single complaint against the service of the NGO has been received from any group or individual by him.
The All Bodo Students� Union (ABSU) in the district has criticised Education Minister, Siddhartha Bhattacharya, for his statement which appeared in some media circles today, based on false charges brought by the NGO against the schools of the district.
The All Assam Minority Students� Union (AAMSU) members burnt an effigy of the Education Minister at Rakhaldubi in Bongaigaon district today protesting the handing over the supply of midday meal to NGOs.
Guardians of the school students have sought the intervention of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in the midday meal anomalies before the public loses its confidence on the ruling BJP government.
