School for specially-abled children demanded

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, Sept 27 - Specially-abled persons from different parts of the district gathered near the Deputy Commissioners office recently and shouted slogans demanding a school exclusively for specially-abled children in the Dhubri district.

The protesters said they are the kind of people who need help from the government but they are ignored. We are deprived of basic facilities like education, said Ziarul Hoque Prodhani, president of the Dhubri District Bikalanga Unnayan Suraksha Sommittee.

He also stated that the children with disability have to face many problems while studying with normal children and, as a result, they are forced to discontinue their education. An exclusive school for the specially-abled children is very much needed so that our children can get education along with dignity and respect, he said.

Even the government offices, including the Deputy Commissioners office, is not disabled-friendly, he added.

The committee also demanded that the Dhubri Deputy Commissioner should have an office room in the ground floor where he can meet the specially-abled persons and listen to their issues.
