School chess meet ends

GUWAHATI, Sept 1 � Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti (SBGJ) was adjudged as the best team while South point School came runners up in the 2nd SBGJ All Assam Inter School Chess Championship concluded on August 30. Altogether 135 players of different schools took part in the meet where Rs 30,000 was at stake as prize fund. The three-day tournament was organised by Shatranj, SBGJ Chess Clubs at the school campus, stated a release.

The list of prize winners (top three position holders in different groups): Knight group (class 5 to 8): Abhilekh Mahanta (6.5, Maharishi Vidya Mandir), Debanga Kalita (5.5, Gurukul Grammer), Bidisha Sarma (5.5, Maharishi Vidya Mandir Rajgarh).

Best girl: Shelja Agarwal, Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti. Queen group (class 9 to 12): Nitish Das (5.5, City Faculty), Amlan Mahanta (5.5, KV Ioc), Tridev Buragohain (4.5 KVK).

Best girl: Bidisha Borthakur, Kendriya Vidyalay Khanapara. Pawn group (upto class 4): 1. Rishita Sinha (6.5, St Mary�s Guwahati), Dhrupad Kashyap (6, Sbgj), Jenifa Islam (5.5, Shishu Niketan High School).

Best girl: Adreeja Sinha, Army Public School, Narengi.
