School celebrating golden jubilee amid all odds

By Staff reporter

GUWAHATI, June 4 What for most others of its ilk would have testified success and glory, only reconfirms the continuous indifferent attitude meted out to Bhaskar Vidyapeeth Ussatar Madhyamik School over the last five decades of its existence, by the State Government.

Located on the RG Baruah Road in Chandmari area, the school these days is busy celebrating its golden jubilee, with virtually nothing to rejoice though.

Be it having adequate number of classrooms, proper sanitation facilities or a library, the school lacks all. The fury of water logging adds to the problem further as a single spell of shower proves enough to disturb the academic proceedings for days.

The school now is banking on the contribution by its ex-students working in various fields to bail out their alma mater. Besides, it has appealed to people from all sections of the society to contribute towards improving the basic requirement of an educational institute.

Government aid is not coming the way it should have and problems are increasing with every passing year, stated Deepika Arandhara, principal of the school, interacting with the media recently.

She, however, maintained that the school may have very little to show in terms of academic brilliance but nothing could match the pride that it takes in reaching out to the slum areas in spite of being located in the heart of the city.

Our students are mostly from the slum areas and it is a daunting task to keep them engaged in studies. We are working hard to cater to their needs and so far we have succeeded in our endeavor, she pointed out.

Though we have completed fifty years of our existence, the infrastructure continues to be of sub-standard. The last fifty years has been the phase of struggle and the scenario does not seem to be changing even now, rued the principal.

Deepika further informed that the school authority though has prepared a master plan to improve the existing infrastructure, funds continue to be the stumbling block.

President of the golden jubilee celebration committee, Surendra Nath Sarmah has appealed to all its ex students to be the part of the celebration.

A website of the school www.bhaskarvidyapeeth goldenjubilee.org.com was also launched on the occasion.

The school at present imparts education to around 450 students.
