IMPHAL, May 21 - The proposed indefinite economic blockade along the Imphal-Mao sector of the National Highway-2 in Senapati district, which was scheduled to begin from 6 pm on Wednesday, was called off following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Government and civil society organisations.

PHE Minister Losii Dikho, Advisor to the Chief Minister K Leishiyo and Lok Sabha member Dr Lorho S Pfoze represented the Manipur Government in the talks with the civil society organisations and the tribal hohos of Senapati district, as per the MoU signed on Wednesday.

The talks also focused on the alleged violation of the COVID-19 standard operating procedure and quarantine protocols by former Senapati Deputy Commissioner Somorjit Salam on May 13, said the MoU.

Later based on the positive and detailed discussion, the meeting agreed that the proposed economic blockade should be called off. It also agreed that an inquiry committee would be set up by the Manipur Government to investigate the alleged incident.
