SC youth team meets CM

GUWAHATI, June 14 � Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday assured a ten-member delegation of the Asom Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Santha of all possible steps to stop flow of contaminated water into the Deepor Beel from the nearby factories and prevent fresh encroachment on the world famous wetland. He met the delegation at his official chamber here.

Gogoi said the Government is contemplating formulation of a rehabilitation package for the 815 fishermen families who earn their livelihood through fishing in the Deepor Beel.

According to an official press release here, the Chief Minister assured the delegation that the government would look into the issue of amending the legislations for reserving posts in the venture schools for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (SC/ST).

He further assured steps to examine the issue of providing appointment opportunities to the SC and ST candidates against different posts under the NRHM. Both these issues were raised by the delegation led by president Nripen Das and secretary Nityananda Das respectively, the Santha submitted a charter of demands to the Chief Minister. The demands include, among others, a separate secretariat for the SCs, enhancement of funds, Sati Radhika Cultural Projects in each district and recruitment in river police.
