SC upholds conviction of Manu Sharma

By The Assam Tribune

NEW DELHI, April 19 The Supreme Court today upheld the life sentence given to Manu Sharma, son of senior Congress leader Venod Sharma, for killing model Jessica Lall 11 years ago, saying his guilt has been proved beyond reasonable doubt, reports PTI.

The apex court also upheld the Delhi High Court verdict convicting and awarding four years jail term to Vikas Yadav, son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D P Yadav, and Amardeep Singh Gill alias Tony Gill, the then MNC executive for the destruction of evidence.

We hold that the prosecution has established its case beyond doubt against the appellants and we are in agreement with the conclusion arrived at by the High Court, a Bench comprising Justices P Sathasivam and Swatanter Kumar said in its 229-page judgement.

Jessica, 34, was shot dead by Manu Sharma alias Siddharth Vashisht at the Tamarind Court Cafe restaurant owned by socialite Bina Ramani at Qutub Colonnade in South Delhi where she had hosted a party for her Canadian husband George Mailhot on the intervening night of April 29-30, 1999.
