SC orders allotment of medical seats to 10 Meghalaya students

By Staff correspondent

SHILLONG, Sept 24 - Supreme Court has ordered that ten Meghalaya medical students, who were earlier denied admission in Assam, be allotted their seats.

The order has brought huge relief to the students who were denied the seats out of the allotted North Eastern Council quota. Under an agreement, since 1976 ten seats were being allotted to students from Meghalaya willing to study medicine in medical colleges in Assam.

However, after the denial of seats, Meghalaya Government approached the Supreme Court. Since it is an interim order under a special leave petition, the final hearing on the original suit would be held in January next year.
