SC intervention sought for error-free NRC

By STAFF Correspondent

SILCHAR, Aug 6 - The founder president of All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) Pradip Dutta Roy has questioned the updation process of National Register of Citizens (NRC) and alleged that names of many illegal immigrants have been incorporated in the list in exchange of money.

Elaborating on his claims, Dutta Roy on Monday told reporters at his residence, the draft NRC has names of nearly 90 per cent of people who reside in districts like Karimganj, Goalpara, Dhubri etc., which are close to the Indo-Bangla border. The NRC process will be nothing more than a travesty since a large chunk of people whose names feature in the draft list are illegal immigrants who have been enlisted, courtesy a nexus of corrupt officials engaged in the process.

Seeking the intervention of the Supreme Court for an error-free NRC, Dutta Roy criticised the role of NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela, saying that the state coordinator must make public how and where the huge public money has been utilised for the massive exercise.
