SC group supports NPPs Bhaben Baruah

By Staff Correspondent

DIBRUGARH, March 26 - One of the leading organisations of the Scheduled Caste community in Assam, the Anusuchit Jati Yuba Chatra Parishad, Asom today announced its decision to extend support to the NPP candidate Bhaben Baruah for the Lok Sabha polls.

The organisations president Rajib Das told newsmen here that the decision to support the NPP candidate was taken by the central leadership of the organisations. He however, said that NPP must continue to stick to its anti Citizenship Amendment Bill stand in the future.

Explaining their decision, Das said that the organisation stands against the CAB and therefore cannot align with the BJP, AGP or BPF, because BJP is in support of the Bill while AGP and BPF are helping the BJP. We are also against the AIUDF, he said.

Das further said that the organisation is also opposed to the Congress candidate Paban Singh Ghatowar in Dibrugarh. Ghatowar won five times from the constituency and was privileged to be Union Minister twice but where is the development. Forget about the rest of the people, the socio-economic condition of his own community people toiling in the plantations is getting worse day by day. Today even other tea garden organisations are against his candidature. We dont favour him because our community stands offended due to some issues that happened with him and his wife in the past, he said.

Das described Bhaben Baruah as the most competent candidate. He said that the general public is also not at all happy with the performance of the BJP candidate Rameswar Teli and therefore is looking for change. The scheduled caste community voters are about 1,32,124 in Dibrugarh Lok Sabha area, according to Das.
