SBI to open 25 branches in State

GUWAHATI, March 9 � In view of growing volume of business, State Bank of India (SBI) is planning to open 25 more branches during the current fiscal in Assam. The bank is also increasing its ATM strength.

Talking to a group of reporters here today, OP Bhatt, Chairmans of SBI said that to meet the demand of the customers, SBI would open 25 branches. �We are also planning to enhance the ATM strength up to 1000 mark within next three months in the region, he said while sharing his future plan with the reporters.

Providing feedback on the North East, Bhatt revealed that SBI is in the process of recruiting over 20,000 staff in a phased manner across the country. �There are about 700 vacancies in the region and all the existing vacancies will be filled up,� he added.

Replying to a question about the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) report on 35,000 cases of counterfeit notes, he said that new machines have been installed in various branches to check the menace.

Bhatt later inaugurated a Document Archival Centre (DAC) and the first e-Centre with cash facility ATM at Silpukhuri.

The new DAC has been set up as part of the bank�s BPR initiative. The new e- Centre will provide cash and cheque depository facility, besides Internet banking.

In this context, Bhatt observed that the new facility would immensely benefit the customers.
