GUWAHATI, Oct 10 - The State Bank of India Officers Association (SBIOA), North Eastern Circle, has strongly denounced the barbaric killing of its member Junu Sarma, the Service Manager of SBI Dadara Branch.
Sarma was shot dead from point-blank range by two armed motorcycle-borne assailants at Agiathori last evening while returning home from office.
In a statement, the association said the incident took place at a time when all bank employees and officers have been under tremendous pressure to meet public demands, along with pressure from the government/management to fulfil targets. Of late, all our officers have been working for more than 12 hours a day and incidents like this will only demoralise them and bring in a sense of fear and abhorrence among them.
The association treated the senseless killing of Sarma as a cowardly act on the part of the attackers, and also criticised the administration for its failure in providing basic security and safety to the citizens. What is more disconcerting is the fact that the spot of the attack is just a stones throw away from the local police station, in a fairly crowded area, the statement added.
The SBIOA, NE Circle, has demanded a prompt and proper investigation into the killing. It demanded of the government to order a CBI inquiry to get into the truth and nab the perpetrators of the killing, adding that otherwise it would be forced to move ahead with their organisational movement, which will cause inconvenience to the common mass at large.
Meanwhile, the Bank Employees Federation, North Eastern Region, also expressed concern and anguish at the killing of Junu Sarma. The federation expressed profound grief at her untimely death and conveyed its heartfelt sympathy to her bereaved family.
Severely condemning the cowardly act of the assailants, it demanded prompt and effective action by the administration for immediate capture of the culprits.
