SBI focuses on financial inclusion prog

MANGALDAI, July 1 - Sunil Kumar Tendon, who recently joined as the Chief General Manager (CGM) of State Bank of India, North Eastern Circle, has underscored the need to cover more and more people under the financial inclusion programme.

While talking to this correspondent after visiting several parts of Darrang district, he said that SBI�s main objective is to provide banking service to every nook and corner of the State. �Under the financial inclusion programme, we are planning to cover several remote areas of the State where people are yet to get the actual benefits of the banks,� he said.

During his visit, the CGM also addressed public awareness programmes and enrolment camps organised by the SBI.

�I have a plan to include all the rural households of the region into the financial inclusion programme like PM�s Jan-Dhan Yojana and also cover them under the two most beneficial insurance schemes, namely Jeevan Jyoti Beema Yojana and Suraksha Beema Yojana so that poor families can reap the benefits from the schemes�, he said.

Earlier, he appealed to the people to avail the benefits of insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh up to 70 years of age against a monthly premium of Rs 1 only.

The CGM on his maiden visit to the district also met the people of Chamuapara, Dighirpar, Hazarikapara and Kharupetia.

He was accompanied by senior bank officials, including Anjali Lynden, Deputy General Manager (Outsourcing) SBI , Sapan Kumar Sarkar, Assistant General Manager, SBI, Mangaldai, Bishnu Pada Karmakar, Zonal Head of UCO Bank, Jorhat Zone and Pradip Kumar Goswami, District Lead Bank Manager, Darrang, among others.

Gurujyoti Das, MLA of Mangaldai also attended the programmes under his constituency. Later in a function at the SBI�s Mangaldai campus, Tandon distributed cheques among the farmers under the Kisan credit schemes. Das said that the BJP-led government has already introduced a number farmers-friendly schemes in order to double their income.
