JAGIROAD, Sept 23 - The three-day concluding function of the silver jubilee celebration of Jagiroad Sattriya Sangeet Vidyalaya was held here with various events and it ended on September 22 in presence of a large gathering.
The programme began with the hoisting of 25 flags led by Abanti Kumar Deka, president of the Sangeet Vidyalaya which was followed by smriti-tarpan offered by general secretary of celebration committee, who is also the Principal of the institution Dr Khagen Sarma. A tree plantation programme was organised at the Vidyalaya premises here.
Atanu Sarma, secretary, Asom Unnati Sabha and Khagen Ch Das, vice-president of celebration committee opened the painting and photo exhibitions respectively on the second day. Dr Bhaben Ch Neog, Principal, Jagiroad College inaugurated the alumni meet. The founder president of the Sattriya Sangeet Vidyalaya Kumud Baruah presided over the alumni session in the presence of 500 ex-students of the institution where Apurba Das, Principal, Jagiroad HS School, Nadiram Deuri, Tiwa exponent and writer Akon Devi, attended as guests of honour.
Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winner Ramkrishna Talukdar inaugurated the Kumud Kakati and Arabinda Baruah memorial sattriya cultural evening. Sattriya artistes Gopal Chandra Bordoloi of Guwahati, Mitalee Dutta Borthakur of Tezpur and Gayatree Konwar of Guwahati performed.
Attending the open session as the chief guest, Satradhikar of Auniati Satra Dr Pitambar Deva Goswami, in his speech, thanked the school founders including the principal and the students for their contribution towards progress of sattriya culture in middle Assam. The session was presided over by school committee president Abanti Kumar Deka, in which Sudarshan Thakur, secretary, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winner Saradi Saikia of Guwahati, social worker Jitendra Kumar Deka, among others, spoke on various aspects of sattriya culture.
Saradi Saikia released a souvenir titled Jolok edited by Biva Bhagawati and Abanti Kumar Bora. Earlier, Vidyalaya principal Dr Khagen Sarma welcomed the guests.
On the penultimate day of the celebration, the ankia bhaona Ram Bijoy was staged by Madhabdev Krishti Sangha, Letekupukhuri, Lakhimpur in memory of Thanada Devi. It was inaugurated by Borbayan Ghana Kanta Bora. In the morning, a cultural procession was taken out in which several groups participated. The rally was inaugurated by Pradip Kumar Bora, i/c, Jagiroad PS.
