TINSUKIA, April 23 - Along with the rest of the State, the Tinsukia district observed the Sati Sadhoni Divas with a day-long programming in different places of the district on Saturday.
In Sadiya, the birth place of Sati, the day was observed jointly by the Kundil Lekhika Samaroh and Sadiya Mahila Kalyan Mancha at Chapakhowa. The programme began with the lighting of earthen lamps by the president of the Lekhika Samaroh, Pranati Gogoi. Several prominent persons addressed the meeting. They elaborated the life and struggle of Sati and appealed to the young generation to follow the path of sacrifices of Sati for the betterment of the society. The meeting also adopted a resolution to demand for the naming the Bogibeel bridge over the Brahmaputra after Sati Sadhoni. The day was observed by the Tinsukia Regional committee of the All Assam Chutia Students� Union (AACSU) at the Sati Sadhoni Bhawan at Tinsukia. Similarly the local units of AACSU too observed the day separately at Borgaon Sadhoni Bhawan of Barekuri, Makum, Borjan, Digboi, Doomdooma, Kordoiguri, Kakopathar Chengeligaon, Borgaon Philobari etc with various programmes.
