Sati Sadhani�s contributions recalled at Sissiborgaon

SILAPATHAR, April 24 - A State-level Birangona Sadhini Divas was observed at Sissiborgaon College playground in Dhemaji district with a day-long programme on April 21.

The Divas was organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs in association with Dhemaji district administration.

A function organised on the occasion was attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, local MLA of Jonai constituency Bhuban Pegu, MLA of Dhemaji constituency Ranoj Pegu, Lahoal constituency MLA Rituparna Baruah, Minister of Cultural Affairs Naba Kumar Doley and MP of Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat Pradan Baruah, besides Chutia Jati Sanmilan and Chutia Jati Students� Union office-bearers along with members of the general public.

Attending the meeting, Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley dwelt at length on the stellar contribution and ideals, besides the sacrifice of Birangona Sadhini for the State and her people. Every citizen should imbibe the ideals set forth by Birangona Sadhini, he said.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal recounted the sterling role of Birangona Sadhini for the nation as a whole and Assam in particular.

The Chief Minister felt that completion of the much-awaited Bogibeel Bridge will help to accentuate development of Dhemaji district manifold. The Government, he said has adopted strategies for the development of all the 33 districts of Assam.

In an effort to pitchfork Assam to the No. 1 position within the nation, the people of the State have to shoulder the responsibility of working diligently in whatever sector they may be in, he said.

He assured that the State Government will take adequate measures to fulfil the demands of the Chutia organisations. He mentioned that the State Government has resolved to open a cultural university in order to preserve the myriad culture of the State.

Addressing the meet as appointed speaker, retired Principal of Dhemaji College Budhin Baruah appealed to the State Government to declare Birangona Sadhini Divas as a State holiday, and name the Bogibeel Bridge as Birangona Sadhini Setu.

The souvenir Sati Birangona Sati Sadhini edited by Mridupawan Chutia was released by Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley.
