Sati Sadhani Award presented to Birubala Rabha

JORHAT/DERGAON, April 21 - The State Government will set up a cultural centre for research and development in the name of Sati Sadhani, the last queen of Chutiya dynasty, announced Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today.

He was speaking at the central function of the Virangana Sadhani Divas organised at Golaghat by the State cultural affairs department in association with the Golaghat district administration.

Synchronising with the occasion, the Chief Minister also presented the Sati Sadhani Award to social activist Birubala Rabha in recognition of her relentless efforts to eradicate the menace of witch-hunting in the State.

The award instituted by the State Government carries Rs 1 lakh and a citation.

Receiving the award, Birubala Rabha expressed satisfaction over the State Government�s recognition of her crusade against witch-hunting and superstition. She opined that for eradicating social evils a strict legislation is a must.

The function was also attended by Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and Cultural Affairs Minister Naba Kumar Doley.

Earlier in the morning, a colourful cultural procession was taken out in the Golaghat town. The district administration declared a local holiday today in the Golaghat district.
