GUWAHATI, Jan 24 � Sarupam Purkayastha continued his match-winning form as Assam registered a 10-wicket victory against Goa at their home ground in the Ranji Trophy Group C match.
On the final day of the four-day encounter at the Goa Cricket Association Academy Ground, Porvorim in Goa today, requiring just nine runs for the outright victory, Assam reached the target in 1.3 overs without losing any wicket. Pallav Das and KB Arun Karthik remained unbeaten on four and eight respectively.
Earlier, Sarupam Purkayastha wrecked the Goa second innings with a six-wicket haul giving away 76 runs in 37 overs. The host team fell to Sarupam�s guile and virtually surrendered meekly. Abu Nechim Ahmed took two wickets, while Arup Das and Syed Mohammad got one wicket each.
The host team resumed their second innings at the overnight total of 82 for no loss. But after adding 12 runs to their team total, opener Swapnil Asnodka was trapped leg before by Sarupam and his fall triggered their downfall. The host team started losing wickets at regular intervals and finally were all out for 268 in 109.3 overs.
Opener Amogh Sunil Desai was their top scorer with 63 which he got from 129 deliveries. Apart from Amogh, middle order batsman Keenan Vaz was the other leading contributor with 59 off 115 balls. Swapnil Asnodkar (46), RJ Pinto (37), VA Naik (24) also had some contribution to their total.
With today�s victory, Assam gained seven points including a bonus point and jumped to the top position in the nine-team table with 28 points from six outings.
