Sarukshetri subdiv inaugurated

BARPETA, Feb 29 - The people of the eastern part of Barpeta district finally got to see the light of development at the end of the tunnel, when the Sarukshetri subdivision, for which they were struggling for long became a reality on Sunday (February 28). The State Minister of Irrigation and Soil Conservation, Chandan Sarkar, formally inaugurated the new subdivision at Sarthebari, the proposed headquarters of the subdivision.

Inaugurating the new subdivision at its proposed venue at the site of the old Sarukshetri CHC under Ward No 2 of Sarthebari town, Chandan Sarkar narrated at length the process of creation of new subdivisions in the State. He made it clear that creation of the new subdivisions has nothing to do with politics, but is only meant for making the administration accessible to the people. Terming Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi as a man of action, Sarkar said that he commits what he can do and does what he commits.

Sarkar requested all the officers and employees including those to be employed in the new subdivisions to be impartial in performing their duties so that the purpose of the creation of new administrative units becomes fruitful. He also announced that all these new subdivisions will become full fledged within a very short period. He also requested the people to cooperate with the officers who will come to work in the new establishment.

Earlier, Banikanta Bhuyan, working president of the subdivision demand committee welcomed the gathering. He thanked the government, the local administration and the people of this locality for their struggle to establish the subdivision. Sanjib Kumar Bora, Circle Officer, Sarthebari Circle and SDO designate of the Sarukshetri subdivision narrated the purpose of the meeting.

In his presidential address, Ramendra Nath Sarma, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Barpeta hoped that the people of the area will extend all kind of help and cooperation in the functioning of the offices to be established in the near future.

Rita Deka, chairperson of the Assam State Marketing Board, Bichitra Choudhury, secretary, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Bijay Bhuyan, chairman, Sarthebari Town Committee and a host of other dignitaries were also present in the function.

Earlier, in the morning Chandan Sarkar inaugurated the new subdivision at Sarbhog. Another new subdivision at Kalgachia was inaugurated by Sukur Ali Ahmed, Minister of Public Health Engineering.

With these three, the total number of civil subdivisions in Barpeta increased to five as there are existing two namely Barpeta and Bajali. All the new subdivisions will be bifurcated from Barpeta while the geography of Bajali has been kept intact.
