Sardar Patel award to AAU

JORHAT, June 19 � In what may turn out to be an inspiring news for the State is that Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has selected Jorhat based Assam Agricultural University (AAU) for the country�s prestigious �Sardar Patel Outstanding Institution Award, 2014�, which will be given on July 15 at Varanasi during the celebration of ICAR�s foundation day.

AAU has been selected for the award for its outstanding performance consecutively for five years since 2009 to 2014. �The award will carry a citation and a cash amount of Rs 10 lakh,� said AAU spokesperson Dr Ranjit Kumar Saud. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the award giving ceremony as the chief guest at Varanasi.

Students, teachers, researchers of AAU expressed their gratitude to the vice chancellor Dr Kamal Malla Bujarbaruah �whose visionary and sagacious leadership has made the university one of the best known Indian institutions of agricultural studies and research in the past five years�.

In past five years the university has set an example of outstanding performances in research and academic activities, collaborative works with reputed foreign universities, besides providing its practical helps for farming communities of the State.

AAU has embarked on a mega nursery project (v-type) to provide at least 16 lakhs of quality saplings annually to the State farmers for high horticulture produce in several fertile districts that witnessed low production for insufficient planting materials.
