GUWAHATI, Sept 26 - The All Santal Students� Union (ASSU) of Assam today criticised the BJP-led State government for their alleged negligence to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the community. The student body today staged a sit-in demonstration in support of their demands at Last Gate in Dispur on the third day of the Legislative Assembly session.

During the protest, they raised other demands like introduction of Santali language in the schools and recruitment of language teachers in Santali-populated area of the State.

The ASSU also demanded distribution of free textbooks in Santali language and reservation of seats for students of the community in institutes of higher education.
